 That's why their plans, as far as I have learned, are to bring out a 
flagship $10,000 HF transceiver and offer it for about $4,000.  From my 
earlier post on 6/28/07:

 By the way, when the planned new Kenwood "high end" HF radio does come out, 
they are hoping the price point will be far below that of the IC-7800.  I 
got the impression they were shooting for a list price around $4,000 -- but 
to have features that will turn heads.  We'll have to see about that.

money and making rigs the *regular* folks who don't have unlimited
ham funds but actulally have to work for a living, would choose?
Well, then, I don't think a $8-10 K behemoth that takes up half the
desk need be it's flagship.  I have found the TS480 to be an ultra
modern rig, in being designed from the ground level to be digitally
ready for the new modes and interconnectedness with the net and so
on. I'm sure the ts2000 even more so.  They have nothing to be
ashamed about.
