Greetings All,
I wonder if anybody else on the list did the TS930 driver mod by Pedro,
ON7WP, which replaced the MRF485 bi-polars with P4NA80 FETs? I could
not find the P4NA80s here, so tried a few other types, with varying
degrees of success. After 3 or 4 failures I tried using IRF820 FETs
about 6 months ago & they are working VERY well in both of my TS930s. I
get 100W output on all bands except 12 & 10m, where it drops to 50W.
Both rigs have been operated for over an hour on many cw QSOs with no
further failures & on all bands & reports are good.
Pedro has a later mod which uses a 'full plastic' FET, but I have not
tried these, their specs were somewhat different to the IRF820s - if
there was a 'full plastic' IRF820 available I might try it, just to save
messing with insulators, but, until then, I'm pretty happy with the
IRF820s (which are fairly cheap too!!).
