Howdy John,
Are you talking about mechanical drag on the knob, or just the turns ratio?
If the former, hold the knob in one hand and turn the knurled ring with the
other - this causes two felt-covered tabs ( if I remember correctly) to
press against the case and sort of simulate the weighted feel of a really
heavy knob, but really all you get is some frictional drag. One direction
tightens, the other loosens. There's no gear assembly, the shaft
direct-drives an optical encoder.
If the turns ratio is what you're talking about, I recall cutting a jumper
somewhere to get higher display resolution, but don't recall that it changed
the turns ratio, just added another digit in the display. If you need this
info, let me know and I'll start the archeological excavation!
