[Kenwood] TS850 and autotuner

I got the TS850 I recently ordered in yesterday (used,
of course) and the autotuner doesn't seem to be
operating as the manual states it should.  It will
load up antennas-better than most autotuners I have
seen, but it won't stop tuning once it has found a
good match.  It will continue to tune and eventually
start sending 5 dits.  

What am I missing here?  I can get it to stop tuning
once it has a good match by pushing the AT Tune button
again, but it won't remember the match when I change
bands and come back again.  I checked the hidden menu
functions (power on while pushing TX-MEM and SCAN) and
it is set to stop tuning when it has found a match.

Anyone have a solution to this deal?
