I will concur on both...
TS-830s and TS-850S/AT
The former if you like hybrids and the latter if you like solid state.
Not to mention if you need to work on these it is possible
without expensive SMT solder re-work stations.  Then there is 
the audio...with a fairly  decent mike that's not real expensive
you will get great audio reports.

If you're into the digital modes I like the IC-706MKIIG with a 
RASCAL GLX sound card interface from packetradio.net along
with a LDG AT100-pro antenna tuner.  Pretty much plug and play.
