[Kenwood] F6A sensitivity outside of ham bands

I just had a used F6A delivered yesterday, and was trying to listen to the World Series (congrats White Sox!) on Channel 18 audio (499.750mhz).  Performance of the F6A on this frequency was pretty poor.  I have had a VX5, VX7, and T81A that all receive this channel full scale, but the F6A seemed to be weak and scratchy, with the audio cutting in and out.  Is the F6A really this deaf outside of the ham bands, or is the supplied antenna just really bad for receiving UHF TV audio?
