[Kenwood] TS-850S Filter Question

I don't have my 850 in front of me as I am using my 870 these days. 
However, I found that the two 500 Hz filters plus one 270 Hz filter in 
the appropriate IF was the best way to go.  There is no reason to add an 
SSB filter in the 850 due to the slope tuning that works in SSB and CW. 
  In fact, you can get away with NO filters.  The slope tuning is that good.

But, the 500 Hz filters are probably what you will use the most.  If you 
are contesting, workinging DX, you might find the 270 Hz filter a little 
too narrow.

That is my experience.

I'd like to solicit opinions on how to make the best use of the three
available filter slots in the TS 850.  My interest is in CW contesting and
DXing, but I have never owned a SSB filter in my life.  Seems like the 1/2
punch of 500/250 Hz makes sense for CW, but which IF should the narrow
filter be installed in?  What would be the best combination for CW only and
for CW as the primary mode with one SSB filter?
