[Kenwood] TS850 freq. Transmit changes for marine use

Hi All,

I have a related real life problem. About two months ago I put up for sale
most of my amateur and short wave radio equipment due an illness and an
anticipated move to a senior's resident. Outside antennas are not
allowed.

Two of the SWL radios were Collins R-390 and an R-390A. Both radios were
sold in the US. I live in Canada. The R-390A was delivered without problems.
The buyer had to pay a brokerage fee of 35.00 USD which is quite acceptable. 
The
R-390 was and continues to be nothing but trouble. The radio was eventually
delivered to the buyer. I was asked to pay, by FedEx Trade networks, 117.17
USD for brokerage fees, duty and some other fees. Including 60.00 USD for
something to do with FCC Form 740 and an FCC ID number which I think is the
type approval number that you all refer to. From what I understand lack of
an ID number could be the problem.I have requested a review of these charges 
and
am waiting for results. The buyer is not really complaining about the 
charges
but I feel that they are out of line. FedEx here in Canada did NOT provide 
any
assistance  with info for completing the customs forms or what type of forms 
were
required.

Now a more recent problem. I sold a TS-940S to an amateur in the US. I
have a few questions.

1: Does the TS-940S have an FCC type approval. I have tried this site

http://www.fcc.gov/oet/fccid/

but it does seem to work. I have tried everything including using the FCC ID
number for my 2 meter Icom 2100H. Even this did not work. I could not get
the ID number and  when I typed in the ID number nothing, only an error
page.

2: Taking into consideration all the talk about modifying radios lately I
decided to try the TS-940 for any mods of this type. Sure enough it
transmits
over most of the frequency range of the radio. How do I reverse this mod.
Mods not done by me, honest.

3: Is there anybody who has either shipped to the US or imported an amateur
radio from Canada and what were the problems if any.
