Chuck,

Crossband .... ?  your question is not crossband,    your question is
"inband".  The radio will do crossband repeat, most will not do
inband. Perhaps your uncle should consider using a 70cm input to 2m
the radio will do this very nicely.

If he wants to walk around the house using a ht and hit the local
repeater Q5  he can get a small 440 HT for well under $100.00 and use
it to x band in to the 2m machine.
