Hi Rick,

Ok, this then was the difference I was referring to in that the YG-88C and
the YK-88C centre freqs are actually different by 700Hz which limits each
filter to it's specific radios. Both are referred to as 8.83MHz but one is
actually 8.8307MHz.

So anyway I have a YG-88C which came from an 820 and is known good. Swap for
a CW filter for a TS930/940 or CW filter for a Collins 75S-3B.

Hi Martin,

    You posted to the Kenwood group so I thought I would send this to both
you and Dennis. Your TS-930S and TS-940S and for that matter all the
Kenwoods since then use a filter mounted on a plug in board.  These are
differentiated by a suffix -1 in their respective part number. A YK-88C is a
500hz CW filter you solder into an 830S. A YK-88C-1 is a 500 
hz CW filter    mounted on a board and you plug it into your 930S. These 
are not the same physical filter.  A YK-88S1 (2.7khz SSB) is not the same
filter as a YK-88S-1....The 2.7khz. SSB filter for your 930S would be a
YK-88S1-1 (mounted on the board). Because... Kenwood changed the center
frequency in their radios for CW starting with these new plug in boards.
Again starting with your 930S. It is 8830.0 instead of the
820S/830S/430S/440S 's  - 8830.7.  Don't give yourself a brain freeze by
soldering an older  CW filter on one of the plug in filter boards. You will
be 700hz off all the time trying to figure out with your IF shift 
why no one answers your CQ.   They are answering you.....you are 700 hz 
off frequency and your 500 hz CW filter is cutting them out. Same thing with
un-soldering a CW filter off the board and sticking it in your 830S...same
effect. The SSB filters are interchangeable though.  Maybe all of this is
giving me a brain freeze.....
