[Kenwood] Programming software for Kenwood G707

We are trying to setup the software for the G707 to work with my new laptop,
a Dell Inspiron, that only has USB ports (no serial port).  I have a
converter cable from serial to USB, but when we plug it into the usb ports,
it shows up as Com4, Com5, Com6, or Com7..not Com 1 or Com 2.  Unfortunately
the software for the G707 will only work with Com 1 or Com 2..has anyone run
into this issue and successfully made the software work??  If so, can you
help me out??
