I wiggled the connector and did a reset and the issue with the
subdisplay resolved itself. Now it works. From what I was told, this
particular rig sat up for a few years while the estate of its deceased
owner was sorted out.
Weird little stuff going on.....AM and FM modes not available by pushing
the buttons, but hearing the morse "A" and "F". Then clearing up with no
action on my part. I suspect that the rig just needs a few electrons and
some heat to build up in it to blow the cobwebs out. The jostling from
UPS is probably at fault. Other than that, no other problems that I can
tell. Other observations....
1. The antenna tuner seems to be slow but very capable of tuning out
swr. I tuned a TA-31 20-15-10 Mosley trap dipole to resonance on 75 by
accident.
2. The noise blanker seems to be extremely effective. It would reduce
static crashes when really cranked up, of course by that point, the
"popcorn" is really going good in the receive.
3. The VBT seems to have little effect when the narrow filter is
selected. I need to open the bottom up and verify what filters are
installed.
I suspect that in a month or so I may just go ahead and send it off to
the fellow that was recommended and have him just go through it and do
some good PM so these little edge card issues don't crop up again.
Didn't really have a good chance to run it through its paces as we had 2
good violent thunderstorms pass through the area last night. Same
problem with the astronomy hobby....get a new telescope and it rains or
is cloudy.
I'll pass on more observations in a few weeks.
Thanks for the help and recommendations.
