Then again, I just noticed you say "blank" display.  That may be 
different than the VCO problem, but I still suggest an internet search 
and the Yahoo group archives.  There are many good techs over there who 
have seen all the problems with a 440.

Best of luck.  The 440 is still a comparatively good radio.
