[Kenwood] Kenwood TM-231 to TM-241 conversion?

I have two radios here that I would like to combine into one unit. One
is a TM-231A that works, but the display is slowly failing. There is a
jagged dark band across the top of the LCD display that is slowly
getting worse with time. The other is a TM-241A with a working
display/controller, but a nasty intermittent VCO problem.

I was wanting to swap the display/control unit from the 241 onto the
231 RF borad/chassis. I know the 231 does not have a AM detector,
but I am not concerned with aircraft band reception. I am concerned if
the PLL/VCO control routines are the same between these two rigs.
Just curious to see if anyone has ever looked into doing this kind of
swap. TIA and 73,
