W.R.T. the 950. There is quite a difference between the different 
models. The 950SDX is the latest
(and the preferred model).

W.R.T. the 940. There were quite a few modifications. You may want to 
inform yourself about what
modifications are preferred and see if you can get those.

You might also want to consider a 930 in good condition or with a PIEXX 
replacement board and
with the filter set you want. My 930 has been a principal transceiver in 
my shack, used for SSB nets, CW, and
PSK/QSK work for nearly 20 years.  With the PIEXX board, it can be 
computer controlled. With the narrow CW
filters, it is hard to beat price-wise.
