[Kenwood] Modified VHF/UHF rigs

You obviously were not a ham when Hallicrafters made the FPM300 HF 
transceiver, or you were a ham then but never heard of, or owned one.

This dog (and there are many other dogs out there as well--how about 
the eico 753?) was clearly designed by people at Northrop (after they 
bought Hallicrafters) who had no idea how hams operate.  Among the 
several problems, the most glaring one was no cw offset.    If you 
place yourself at the mercy of the wisdom of some design engineer, you 
doom yourself to a life of inferior performance because you believe 
someone with a BSEE knows what's good for you better than you do.     
If anyone wants  more evidence of what can be done to improve 
performance or longevity of equipment, go to mods.dk and take a look at 
what you can do to a rig to improve it.    How about a narrower roof 
filter for example?   My only problem is I wish I had more courage to 
get into my gear and break something.
