[Kenwood] TS940 Clock failure

            I recently purchased a Kenwood TS940S.  I have most of the
bugs
            worked out except for one.  The Clock/Graph is blank and not
lit.
            When I turn the contrast control fully clockwise I see
several black
            squares across the display area.  Has anyone seen this
problem?
            I checked the battery mounted on the back of the clock and
that
            is good.
