[Kenwood] TM732A again

Can anyone tell me if the Kenwood TM732A (dual band mobile from about 1991) has "bulb(s)" to illuminate the display or is that function part of the LCD?  

Is there anything "typical" for this or like radios that would suggest that the problem would likely require the replacement of the LCD or that the failure would be back in the radio somewhere?
