[Kenwood] Using DeoxIT on TS830 band switch...

DeoxiT D100L lubricates just as well as D5.  Both contain mineral oil based 
lubricants.  There is no need to remove either, UNLESS too much is applied.  The 
goal is to get either product on the contact surfaces, and not the insulated 
wafer material.  Even on ceramic wafers the mineral oil is a great dust 
attractant and can enable carbon tracking.

Both have a "20% cleaning action" formula.  D100 is indicated for heavily 
oxidized contacts, typical of switches that haven't been cleaned in 20-30 years!

I am not a fan of using tools of any kind around switches typical of Ham 
equipment.  I have had to repair more than a few rotary switch fixed contacts 
that have been snagged and deformed by a Q-Tip or other swab.  Most small relays 
that I have had to replace have had their contacts "adjusted" and/or attacked 
with burnishing tools.  Scrubbing off black or brown silver sulfide is also NOT 
a good idea, since it is soft and easily displaced by the wiping action of 
switches.  Again, you're much more likely to damage fixed contacts, than improve 
the conductivity of the switch.  Plated contacts WILL benefit from a final 
application of ProGold after cleaning with DeoxiT.

Spray versions are indicated for sheet metal and other large areas.

By the way, Cailube MCL does a terrific job on carbon potentiometers, making 
them feel like new.  Much better than a shot of DeoxiT.
