[Kenwood] help

I’ve got a new Kenwood TS 480 transceiver, which I’m trying operate from my
lap top pc.  I’ve connected the radio via a DB-9 connector and a serial
converter cable to the USB   port on my lap top but, I get a message that
the baud rate and the connector port is not compatible with the radio.    I’
m Not a computer weenie
so I’m stumped. Has anyone had a similar experience
and can give me some good solutions? Thanks`    Eldon Previte  (W5PEP)
