[Kenwood] connecting usb port to kenwood TS 480

I’ve got a new TS480 I’m trying to connect my lap top PC via a serial
adapter cable.  USB to serial adapter to the DB-6 connector on 480. I’m
getting a message that the baud rate and con port is not correct. Has anyone
had a problem like this before?  Kenwood say they know nothing about this
problem call your pc maker Toshiba say they have no idea what’s wrong.
