[Kenwood] D700 mic cord question

I'm not sure if I understand this correct.
The unit is remotable, you can mount the radio in the truck.
But you have to plug the mic into the trunk mounted radio and not the control head.

I rarely ride in the trunk or under the seat, 
Is this correct???
