Well, if the FCC already authorized it, the legislative fight is over.
I am not saying we should just give up on HF - Quite the contrary. We just
need to start working on ways to use the affected spectrum despite the
interference. The interference will be man-made, which means it cannot be
truly random, and if it can be identified as a pattern it can be filtered
out. We're supposed to have as reputation for being innovators and
technicians - Now we have to depend on this to continue as we do.
Originally everyone said shortwave was useless. Hams proved this wrong and
paved the way for modern communications. Now everyoen says shortwave is
useless because the interference from BPL will wipe it out. BPL is coming
and there's nothing we can realistically do about it. The dollars just
don't add up. The only way to feasably continue is to look for ways to
overcome the interference and make the "impossible" possible again. Even
if we stop it in the USA, I'm sure some other country is going to pick it
up, and given the global propagation of HF signals it only takes one to
wipe out a band for an entire hemisphere.
