    You didn't mention a gawd- awful smell, but it sounds like a capacitor
blew up. They bang, smoke, and usually emit a horrible smell.

Covers have not been removed as yet.  Wanted to get an idea from the experts
as it were.

Radio is a TS850 with DSP100.
