Steve,
I had both of them, side by side, for about 2 years.  I sold the 
TS-950SDX and now have 2 TS-850's.  I am not bashing the 950SDX...it was 
a great rig....I just subjectively preferred the sound and performance 
of the TS-850, by far.  Performance wise, in selectivity and 
sensitivity, they were very comparable.  As I recall, even the ARRL 
Evaluation Numbers were better on the TS-850S.  I just preferred the way 
the TS-850 operated and sounded.  I will also add that I had an 
excellent FT-1000D running along side both of these radios, and in the 
end, I also sold the FT-1000D.  Of all the radios I have owned since 
1955, the TS-850S is my personal favorite.  Your mileage may vary.

"I think the 850 is the best CW box out there.  I have always wanted to
compare the 850 to a 950SDX but have never had the opportunity.

I wish someone out there with an SDX would tell us about it.
