A substantial quantity of the man-made noise that you'll hear is
conducted
by power-lines into your home.  The closer to the house your antenna
is,
the more pick-up you'll get from conducted noise through the
substantial
mass of house wiring.  The difference between tightly coupling to your
house and spacing the antenna higher and away from your house can
result in some cases to 10-20 dB of signal-to-noise improvement.

Hi Gang,

I have my 33' (x2) dipole laying on the roof of my house.

Question 1:  Would raising it even 5' or so off the roof make a
noticeable
performance difference?  10'?



Question 2: If I make an inverted V out of it, how critical is it that
the
V remains a straight line? Could both halves of the dipole be less
than a
180� straight line. maybe 90� degrees or so? (Think of the swept back
wings
of a jet plane)  I'm not talking about the angle formed by the height
of
the pole, but the outer ends of each wire being closer to each other,
if
that makes sense?

This is mostly for 40 meter SWL for now.
