I had a friend that burnt the foil up around the mic connector on a 430.
This sounds similar.=0D
The problem was caused by a number of faults that caused excessive curren=
t
thru the mic audio ground line. THAT was caused by a fault in the wiring =
and
the internal battery in the power mic (don't ask). What made the fault
surface is that he had wired the PTT ground return to the mic shield line=
-
a common practice with vacuum tube radio mic lines, and often repeated wi=
th
the 8 pin Japanese radio mic connector. It was difficult to find - no one
expected the mic connector foil traces to have been compromised.=0D
All the Japanese Big Three have two ground return lines in the mic connec=
tor
circuit. One for mic shield (essentially) and another for the other
functions (PTT, UP, DWN etc).=0D
