Have you checked the mic connector/cable for bad solder joint or
shorted wire ?

 Recently I tried my TS850 to see if the battery backup system was still
 operational. When I turned the 850 on then the MC85 power the transmitter
 immediately began transmitting. This only happens only with the MC85 preamp
 mic plugged in. With the standard MC43 mic it doesn't do this. Any ideas
 where to start looking? I also noticed the audio seems a bit weak, but that
 just may be the 850 vs. the 950 and my hearing.  Thanks for the help!
