The battery has to be on the rig to recharge. The charging circuitry is
built into the HT, not the battery. It takes about 6 hours to fully charge
the battery. There are a couple of quick chargers out there, one sold by W&W
and the other by Batteries America, which allow you to charge the batteries
sans the radio in about 3 hours.

I really liked my TH-F6A, overall. It's well made, gets great battery life
and you get 5 watts on 2/22/440 and wideband RX. The HF receiver will not
make hink about getting rid of your HF rig, but it works OK with the right
antenna. Some people seem to have intermod problems with there TH-F6As. Mine
never exhibited any signs of any atypical front-end weakness, but I live in
a rural area, so I wouldn't notice that. I will say that mine held up very
well in downtown St. Louis. All wideband HTs get some intermod and the F6A
was no worse than some rigs I've had and better than many.
