[Kenwood] Problems with TS-830

I had a similar problem (not just on 17) but any band several years
ago.  Check the nylon bushings etc. on the bandswitch.  One of them was
cracked on my 830 and allowed enough flexing that the digital readout
would go blank, even though I was set in a particular band position.  I
could rock it back and forth and finally get it to work.

Clif at Avvid in Irving TX http://www.avvid.com/ fixed it for me and
said it was just due to "many" band changes over 15 or so years of use
that had caused the bushing to crack allowing lots of "play" in the
bandswitch.
