Hi all
Transmit bandwidth has a bunch of players involved. The most important
one is Transmitter IMD. I have a stock 1000MP & TS-850 that both have very
poor IMD spec's ...... I also have a very modified TS-940 with High voltage
finals that are super clean. My 940 is modified for HI FI audio with Collins
filter of 3.3khz connected to audio rack with a low pass audio filter set at
3.5khz 18 DB per octave, feed to the balance modulator.
I have a FT990 yaesu ( stock) that I use for a reference receiver. Guess
what .... the modified TS940 with a wider filter occupies LESS total
bandwidth than both of the other stock radio's that have narrower filters
.....Why you ask ..... Because the 940 final amp (28volt) is way cleaner
than the TS- 850 or 1000MP with terrible IMD spec's. It make all the
difference in the world. The Filter bandwidth is only a small part to the
total equation ...............
