[Kenwood] H/T Security Problems?

   As a pilot and one who frequently has to run the terminal gauntlet all around the US and Europe, my VX-5 HT always gets a close look. But not as much as all my pilot stuff crammed in my computer bag, my headset, flight data and maps really bring extras in to see. That's why I always try to be first in line just to see what happens. You want to know what a complete search is wait until they ask what each and every cable and wireless card adaptor is used for. Most of the TSA people who work now are not knowledgeable about Amateur radio, least of all about sophisticated wireless and satellite mobile systems. I always get a chuckle to see how dumb most are and that is putting it mildly. But don't despair take your radio, be prepared to answer a few spot questions and most of the time your through inspection faster than the little old lady who wears too much jewelry and keeps setting off the buzzer. 
   Believe it or not the terrorists have won, what we took for granted 5 years ago is now a fond memory, at least from my perspective. Enjoy your vacation and don't let this hassle discourage your wanting to carry your radio your entitled to it and it's one of our enduring freedoms, don't let them win. I wont! They just have to hold the plane at the gate a bit longer.
