[Kenwood] F6A rubber duck-broken?

There are a couple of problems here. The Kenwood antenna didn't die quickly,
the junk Icom antenna that the original owner or the dealer stuck on it did.
You may have gotten screwed, because one wonders how a "demo" unit ended up
with an Icom antenna. Icom has never made a multiband rig with 2m 222 and
440, so there's NO WAY that that antenna could work with the TH-F6A. I would
treat this as a very dubious transaction on many levels, beginning with
whether what you got was a demo or not. At the very least, MAKE the dealer
give you a TH-F6A antenna, along with maybe a little better deal. If they
give you a hassle, tell them you'll contact Kenwood to find out just how a
"demo" TH-F6A left their store with an Icom antenna.

There are a couple of stores that run a scam that allows "good" customers to
return used gear with the original warranty card,  as long as it was sold to
them by the same store, for credit and it's sold as "demo" gear. This might
have been what happened to you or it could be an accident, but I can't
believe that anyone that sells ham gear would be stupid enough to put an
Icom antenna on the F6A.

Be cautious...
