Tks to all who replied .. I'm still looking for answers to the original
queries, tho:
1. How can I activate the output without the DSP100? I now have a partial
schematic of the relevant circuitry in the '850. Is it a combo of d-c
control signals?
2. Does anyone have a service manual to sell for the TS-850S?
The 'manual' I found on-line is a fair scan into PDF; howsomeever, it has no
schematics, dag nab it. I did keep a 7+ meg ZIP file of it, tho. At the
moment, I can't access GOOGLE to search for my source. That 'net worm, I
suppose.
I have one '850 in the shack, and another on the way for experimenting and
SO2R duty, and the usual test equipment, and Drake carcasses, out of which I
can come up with BFOs, detectors, and other needed stuff to process the
signals.
It's a labor of love, not a consideration of ruined resale value, sanity, or
anything else. Having been a home-brewing ham and an electronics tech for
around 50 years, I'm willing to dive into things which some others won't.
Anyone who wants to look over my shoulder, literally or figuratively, is
welcome; I don't mind working in front of a friendly audience at all.
Never met a commercial rig I didn't want to modify.
Tks agn and 73 all around,
Dave, N3HE
Slightly off-topic: anyone else annoyed by all those clicky sigs taking out
several KHz apiece during the 160M contest last weekend?
