[Kenwood] SM-220 question???

I had to buy an SM-220 to find out that it won't work as a band scope for
the TS-930. The 930 has a 455khz IF output and the SM-220 with the BP8 has
an 8.8mhz input.
Has anyone on the list ever tried moving the IF output of the 930 back to
the 2nd IF, 8.8mhz and tapping in there instead of the 455khz so it can be
used with the scope?
Does anyone know why Kenwood would have provided an IF output that doesn't
work with their own scope? I'm perplexed.
