[Kenwood] YK-88C Attenuation

I am no expert - as you can see by my travails over something as simple as 
installing a CW filter.  

I don't know about the TS-820, but on the TS-830 the jumper is right next to 
the slot for the YG-455C filter on the IF board.  It has 4 pins, marked CW1, 
CW2, CW3, and CW4, and a wire that connects to one of the pins.  CW1 selects 
no fitlers, CW2 selects the 8.83 MHz filter (YK-88C in the TS-830, and I 
believe the YG-88C in the TS-820), CW3 selects the 455 kHz filter (YG-455C in 
the TS-830), and CW4 selects both IF filters.  It's all described in the 
TS-830 Users Manual in the section on insstalling the CW filters. 

Have you tried spraying cleaner on the Mode switch?  If that doesn't do it, 
someone else here will need to point you in some direction.
