Good point.  Hats off to the gentleman who had the respect for all of us 
to post such a full explanation of the 830 situation.  It needs to be 
said.

The 850, as far as I know, had some DDS chips in the early runs that 
were unreliable.  I sent mine to Clif at Avvid (always a good choice!) 
and asked him to "update" anything that needed it in my early s/n rig.  
He replaced a DDS chip and wrote on my receipt that
"the other DDS chips were already replaced"  As far as I recall, it was 
2 or 3.  Not really a big deal, the replacement of one chip was not 
expensive at all.

That's what I know.
