Hi, Paul

They were all posted to this reflector.

(1) Tony specified the procedure to store frequencies in memory (which I =
did
not know)
(2) Zig referred to a website * with an on-line manual for the TS-940,
where there are also modifications and remedy for PLL problems in this =
set.
There is one note that describes a PLL failure that appears to match the
symptoms in this radio. The test procedure in the manual also cleared =
up
questions I had regarding some of the front-panel functions of the =
TS-940.

A list of eight or so problems with this set include cosmetic issues =
such as
a broken knob (on order from Kenwood). Operational problems include =
memory
storage (cockpit error) and the fact that it cuts out periodically after =
it
warms up. The latter still needs to be corrected, but at least have a
starting point now with where to look and a schematic. Will look for =
bad
solder connections, PLL circuit adjustment (doubt it is that simple), or
power supply problems.

Do have a couple of questions.

Has anyone found out what kind of illumination is behind (inside?) the =
green
clock digital readout? Am guessing it is a light bulb. One side is dim =
on
this set.

Another, does anyone have a junker and would be willing to part with the
assembly that holds the notch/squelch pot, or just the pot itself? The
inside shaft (notch control) of the pot on this receiver is broken.
