Ahhha Bill, sad you were also a victim of an obvious Kenwood quality
problem. If I am not greatly mistaken, yours would have been an early
production unit of the 850 (ie 2xxxxxxxx serial no). The failure rate was so
bad that Kenwood replaced the DDS chips in subsequent units to 66312s.
Sadly, Kenwood never admitted/owned up despite countless 850s failing over
the years. I have [osted a caution message to this effect at the various
used equipment sites. I was not amased at the number of reponses I had from
people whop had DDS failure on boards with the older chips. All
repairmen/shops know this problem only too well.
