[Kenwood] Kenwood Battery Pack Repair (BP-38/39)

Don't have any idea what a BP-38/39 looks like.  Just info that may help:

For opening items held together with "plastic model" glue or "super glue" I
have easily opened printer ink cartridges with a little acetone on the seam
and a small prying device (small screwdriver, carefully with sharp knife,
etc.).  Once the glue is soft, it pops open.  Kind of just dribble it,
cotton swab it, or the like onto the seam and it kind of wicks right around
the joint.  The plastic will also soften, but the glue goes faster and it is
open before the plastic is sticky.  If you created a gully by running a
Exacto knife around the seam a few times like someone else suggested, it
could work better.  Or continue for a while with the knife until you get
through.  With the acetone though, you still have a flush joint for
re-gluing.

  Has anyone successfully opened-up the BP-38/39 battery packs and replaced
the batteries? If so, how? My TH-G71A's BP-38 and BP-39 packs have acquired
a few shorted cells and I'd prefer to fix them myself as opposed to
purchasing new battery packs.
