[Kenwood] comments on 2000 rig

Noise blankers by their very nature introduce distortion. Whatever the
method, be it clipping, filtering, pulse deleting, or any other, it will
alter the intended signal received. This is of course if there are signals
to cause the threshold of the blanking detection circuit to become active.
If the noise suppression circuit is prior to the final detection bandwidth
it will cause splatter or harmonics that will very well distort the in-band
signal as well. If it is in-band to begin with, well, then obviously it will
modify the intended signal also. DSP can do marvelous things, but no more
than their analog equivalents. The only advantage of DSP over analog is
consistency in results, immunity to thermal effects, hence, repeatability,
and easy changes in coefficients to change desired characteristics. Of
course size and power consumption is not the subject of discussion. 73 -
