Hi,

A "pan" or "panoramic adapter" is a WWII originated term for an instrument
which generates a visual spectrum display from the (early) IF of a
receiver. It shows signal amplitude as a function of frequency. You use it to see
what's on a band, without having to tune. Yaecomwood now call this
"bandscope" I believe.

A BS-X is a panadapter for either a 5 Mc or 8 Mc Kenwood IF. In this case
the appropriate "BS-X" drives SM-220 which acts as a simple XY scope.
