I've been observing various problems the unit has. One was that the 
display would reset to 14.000Mhz and make the VFO inoperative
regardless of what band you were on ....when you push the "DIM"
switch (the display also dims like it should). I received advice that 
a regulator was bad, etc. Turns out that pushing the "DIM" button in
VFO mode causes the unit to start scanning the eight memory channels.
Since this unit also had a busted battery box, they were all reset to
14.000Mhz. I don't see any reference to this in the manual.

The major problem is still that the drivers are toast.
