[Kenwood] TS-2000 PSK31 CW Filter use

I have found two methods for using the excellent CW filters for PSK31 in the
TS-2000. This will work only in the TS-2000 and not in the TS-870.

The first and most important step for both methods is to enter into menu 37
and select "ON". This will allow you to switch between CW and SSB modes
without returning the VFO. Note: Don't be concerned that your frequency
readout changes between modes. This is the beauty of menu 37!

Method one is rather crude but you can simply switch to SSB mode before
transmitting and back to CW when receiving. Obviously, this will allow the
use of the cw filters.
When receiving in CW mode, observe your software's receive frequency, RX in
Digipan. This will tell you where to set your "SHIFT" control. You should
tune the receiver so that the RX frequencies fall between the two extremes
of the variable passband, 400hz to 1000hz. Example: If the software RX
indicates 888.3hz, set the SHIFT for 900hz. Now you can adjust the WIDTH
down to 50hz.
While you're at it, take advantage of the N.R. feature. This further
enhances PSK receptions.

You probably don't want to be changing modes every time you transmit so
here's how to work around that:

Tune your VFO to the center of the PSK frequencies on the chosen band.

Push the SPLIT button.

Push A=B

Using the A/B button, select VFO A.

Select CW mode (This will become your receiving VFO.

Push A/B changing to VFO B

Select USB mode.

Note: You may have to push DISP to force display of modes.

This, VFO-B will become your transmit VFO.

Push A/B for VFO A and you are ready to go. Do not touch the VFO knob unless
you want to reposition yourself within the band. If you must do this, be
sure to push A=B again. Doing this will put both VFO's on the same
frequency. However, the modes will also become equal so you must reprogram
the VFOs for the proper mode.

Tune with your software. If a station does not fall within the
aforementioned passband, you can either reposition your VFO, keep your cw
filter open wide or change VFO A to SSB mode and use the LO/HI cut slope
filter adjustment.

I hope this helps someone. Thanks to the few that replied to my original
question about this. Your suggestions helped. Hopefully the manufactures
will come to realize the importance of using narrow filters for afsk or some
genius will write a firmware upgrade for these fine rigs. 73
