I have to comment on this since I have recently had the opportunity
to do a side by side comparison; although my experience may be
at variance to some other contributors.
My TS-430S and R-5000, which I have had for several years, both
have excellent noise blankers. They both totally eliminate ignition
and electric fence noise (the electric fence runs within 20 feet of
my HF antennas). They even almost completely eliminate the
LORAN-C pulses on 100kHz.
I recently acquired a used TS-450SAT and a new TS-570D. The
noise blankers of these rigs do not even come close to the older
rigs and are a real dissapointment. Otherwise they are both fine
rigs.
While I am at it I have one other comment and that is the lack of a
manual notch filter on the TS-570. The automatic one is fine, but it
cannot handle an interfering CW signal which the manual ones can
take out with ease.
If anyone has any modifications or suggestions to improve the
noise blankers on the TS-450 and/or TS-570 I would really like to
have that information.
