Jerry, If your circuit board is of conventional component
lead thru-board construction, try to inspect the solder side
with aid of bright light and magnification.  You may find a
bad solder joint by simply looking.

My circuit board experience on bad factory solder joints is
that they are more likely to occur on the heavier gauge
component leads.  Because of their greater mass, the larger
leads sometimes do not heat up sufficiently to make a good
joint during the wave soldering operation even though the
smaller size wires and leads are soldered  OK.  

One example is the 1000 uF capacitor that feeds the speaker
in a R-1000 receiver.  Bad joint showed up as open circuit
on mine after 10 yrs of operation. Resoldering the joint
fixed the problem.
