You might note, also, that in addition to the Kenwood original filters
that are pretty good overall, there are the INRAD alternatives.  The 2.1
narrow SSB filters have been mentioned, and I found them to be a bit too
narrow for my ears, though they cut out a lot of QRM.  The other INRAD
alternative is to put a pair of 2.8 KHz filters in there, one in each IF,
and these filters give better skirts than the original filters with about
the same bandwidth at 6 db.  A bit more audio AND less QRM from the side.
The filters are probably cheaper than buying the Kenwood originals (new)
also.  I put a pair of 2.8's (actually they spec somewhere closer to 2.9)
in my TS-850 and the overall sound is still very good and the selectivity
(and slope tuning) are better.  I did have to wire the filters into the
slots with mini coax and mount them with double sided tape, but it was not
a hard job.
