[Kenwood] 17 Meter Noise

I really like 17 meter SSB. It is a great band and you can make some
fantastic contacts. But it seems to have some strange noise. After
working 17 meters for an hour or so my head hurts from the noise. To
hear weak signals I have to wear headphones and turn the volume up. Has
anyone else experienced this noise? Or am I imagining it?

I've got a Timewave DSP-9+ that I got fixed and I'm going to try. Maybe
it will help.

BTW, I'm using a TS-140S running 10 watts SSB to "half" of a Vee. One
leg fell off and I feed it has a random wire. I'm using a LDG QRP
auto-tuner. I have literally worked the world on 15, 17 & 20 SSB.
Siberia, France, South America, Wales, all over Europe. It has been a
blast! If I can hear it I can work it (no splits - don't know how to
work it yet).
