[Kenwood] RE: Kenwood Repair

The main reason that Kenwood spun off it's Service Department was due to
lack of work. Evidently very few radios in comparison to Yaesu and Icom are
coming in for repairs.

I spoke to the National Service Manager while they were still headquartered
in the Los Angeles area, and according to them, the TS-950SDX for example,
they only received four to five for repairs in the 4 years that he had been
with the division. They are also experiencing similar service work with
their other radios. A pretty good record I'd say.

On the contrary, I was in the Yaesu Service Dept. last year and they had
FT-1000's, D's, MP's, etc. stacked from floor to ceiling waiting for
repairs. Yaesu has had to hire several new techs to fill the demand.

Go figure!

years ago to reduce costs. Kenwood Service "West" and "East" became
individually contracted service companies independant of Kenwood Corporation
just like any other authorized service center. In fact, the "Kenwood
Service Department" changed names to "Kenwood Factory Service" after the
spin-off. The only advantage the "KFS" repair depots had was that they were
manned by formerly Kenwood service employees (and, unfortunately, "West"
still kept the mediocre service). The fact that the service company names
include "Kenwood" is somewhat mis-leading and is probably why people think
that these service depots are run by Kenwood.

financial sense for Kenwood to re-open an actual in-house service center.
If you want decent service, the general list concensus is to send it to
Cliff @ Avvid in TX.

Service" (esp. "West")many moons ago and and the topic keeps showing up
every few months. If you dig through the archives, you'll probably find
most of these postings.
