And, as a note to those who never knew...
Kenwood Corporation quietly spun off their "Service Division" several years ago to reduce costs. Kenwood Service "West" and "East" became individually contracted service companies independant of Kenwood Corporation just like any other authorized service center. In fact, the "Kenwood Service Department" changed names to "Kenwood Factory Service" after the spin-off. The only advantage the "KFS" repair depots had was that they were manned by formerly Kenwood service employees (and, unfortunately, "West" still kept the mediocre service). The fact that the service company names include "Kenwood" is somewhat mis-leading and is probably why people think that these service depots are run by Kenwood.
I doubt that anything's changed since the spin-off...wouldn't make financial sense for Kenwood to re-open an actual in-house service center. If you want decent service, the general list concensus is to send it to Cliff @ Avvid in TX.
There was a long thread about shoddy service from "Kenwood Factory Service" (esp. "West")many moons ago and and the topic keeps showing up every few months. If you dig through the archives, you'll probably find most of these postings.

Kenwood East or Kenwood West?
I too had less than a favorable experience. They were not Kenwood
employees. Contractors being paid time and materials. Where is the
corporate linkage, partnership, pride?
Even the owner of Kenwood East just "had" to reply to my usegroup
posting. When they finally found mistakes in the bill, they made
adjustments. My listing and the reply is out there in the groups
somewhere...
Glad I found Clif at Avvid.com in Texas. Just my 2 cents. YMMV.
